Ohuhu vs DecoTime for Adult Coloring

Compare Ohuhu Honolulu and DecoTime alcohol markers for adult coloring: exact tips, set sizes, paper advice and practical reasons to choose either.

Choose Ohuhu Honolulu if you want brush and chisel tips in a 48-color alcohol-marker starter set. Choose DecoTime if you want to try a smaller brush-and-fine alcohol-marker pack, or its available colors fill gaps in your collection. For adult coloring, the useful decision is which tips and shades suit your pages. A brand name alone cannot tell you that.

The exact markers compared

This comparison uses the Ohuhu Honolulu 48 Colors Dual Tips Alcohol Art Markers, Brush & Chisel, New Color Codes and the Dutch Action listing for DecoTime 12-piece Twinmarkers, article 3005439. Action lists several color variants of that pack. These are different pack sizes, so the table compares their contents and practical fit rather than declaring a winner by marker count.

Both selected products use alcohol ink. Ohuhu also sells water-based and acrylic markers; DecoTime sells other marker types too. Check the ink type, tips and product number on the pack you are buying. Local ranges can differ. Honolulu B, for example, has brush and fine tips, so it should not be mistaken for the brush-and-chisel Honolulu version used here.

Which fits your coloring pages?

You are trying alcohol markers for the first time

A DecoTime 12-pack is worth considering if its actual colors cover a page you want to finish. Pick the page first: a plant scene needs a different selection from a pink bakery. Look for a light color, a darker partner and a neutral you can use across the picture. Twelve useful shades can get you started; twelve shades you will rarely use are less helpful.

If you already want several color families in one purchase, examine the Honolulu 48 chart. Count the colors you expect to use, then compare the full local purchase cost. Neither a bigger set nor a lower cost per marker guarantees a better fit.

You color broad cozy scenes or tiny patterned spaces

For walls, skies and large pieces of furniture, consider Honolulu's chisel tip alongside its brush tip. A chisel gives you a broad edge and a narrower corner. For small flowers, cups or patterned details, the DecoTime pack's fine tip may be more useful to you. Both selected products include a brush tip.

This is a choice about the marks you want to make. It is not evidence that one brand produces smoother fills. Paper, ink load and how you overlap your strokes also affect the result. If you prefer brush and fine tips but want Ohuhu, compare Honolulu B separately before ordering.

You already own markers and want better color choices

Keep using them while you identify the missing colors. Swatch your collection, choose one unfinished page and write down the gap: perhaps a pale green, a warm gray or a darker version of your favorite pink. That gives your next purchase a specific job.

Use the marker comparison tool to inspect supported sets and the marker converter to explore color alternatives. Select your exact set and compare the suggestions with dried swatches. A digital match is a starting point, not a promise that two inks behave identically.

Paper and blending matter with either brand

Test your markers on a spare sheet of the paper you plan to color. Make a flat patch, overlap two strokes and try one light-to-dark pair. Let the ink dry, then check the front and back before starting an important page.

Ohuhu's FAQ explains that its dye ink can soak through paper and recommends protection between coloring sheets. Action also warns of show-through on ordinary paper in its separate 300-color DecoTime alcohol-marker listing. That larger set is not the 12-pack compared above. Use a protective sheet and test your own book rather than assuming either brand is safe for double-sided pages.

For an initial shading exercise, choose two nearby colors and practice on a small shape. Change one thing at a time, such as your overlap or the darker shade. Buying more markers before finding out what your paper allows can leave the same problem unsolved.

Quick questions before you buy

Can I translate a DecoTime tutorial into Ohuhu colors?

Use the DecoTime to Ohuhu converter with the correct target set. The entry labeled 60 Dual Tip · water-based represents water-based markers, not Honolulu alcohol markers. Supported Honolulu and Oahu alcohol sets appear as separate options; select the exact set you own. Swatch suggested alternatives before following the tutorial.

Do older Ohuhu color codes mean different ink?

Ohuhu says its alcohol-marker color-code update preserves the ink formula, pen design and nib types. Check its official conversion chart through the new color-code FAQ when a tutorial or your existing markers use older numbers.

Should I replace a working DecoTime collection with Ohuhu?

There is little reason to replace it solely to follow another person's palette. Try choosing a light, middle and dark shade from what you own. The palette generator can suggest combinations from a supported set, with the selection limited to codes you own.

Plan one page with the markers you have

Choose a page, select three to five colors and make a small swatch strip. Start with the free palette generator, or set up ColorBestie to explore coloring ideas around your markers. Buy another set when you can name the tip or shade that will help you finish your next page.
